Over the last 2 1/2 years, I have learned a lot about myself. The journey that started with the 304 pound reading on my bathroom scale March 2, 2017 has been life changing. We all have struggles that we get the privilege of overcoming in this lifetime. Yes I wrote “privilege.”
If you asked me that morning in March, when I felt as though my life would be cut short if I didn’t face my issues with food and obesity, I certainly would not have called my self imposed dilemma a “privilege”, but it was.
In fact, I count the 304 pounds, 129 of those pounds I didn’t need or want, as one of my greatest gifts.
My relationship with Christ, my wife Angie, my family, and then the 304 pounds on the scales, I have countless other blessings for which I am thankful but my greatest challenge is right up there with my Lord, my wife, and my family. Who would have believed that to be true? Certainly not me.
After losing 129 pounds while posting my journey daily on Facebook for the world to see, a spark was lit inside of me that gave me a desire to reach out to the literally millions of obese men that are waking up every day with the same feeling of defeat that I experienced. That gnawing feeling inside that the weight they carry is holding them back from the life that they know is possible.
My obesity was a prison of my own making, all I ever had to do was open the door. There was and never will be a magical diet or the perfect exercise plan. The responsibility for your weight lies squarely on your shoulders just as it did with me.
For a man 100 pounds overweight or more, that is a disheartening realization. Here is the good news, you can overcome the weight that holds you back. Look at it as the gift that it is, lean into the opportunity to win and gain momentum as you shed the pounds.
Put every aspect of your life on the scale and weigh-in daily.
It will likely never become comfortable.
Comfort is overrated.
